Children's Movie Review: Is Wreck-it Ralph a Good Children's Movie?

It?s been a long time since my daughter and I went to watch a children?s movie. This weekend, we went to see the Wreck-it Ralph movie and what a movie it was! The Wreck-it Ralph movie was fast, fun, and completely zany but oh so heartwarming at the same time. There?s a lot to learn in this one little movie and reminds us all that labels alone don?t define who you are. Check out part one of this Wreck-it Ralph movie review by ThingsThatWeDo.com.

Children?s Movie Review: What is Wreck-it Ralph about?

First off, there is a lot going on in this Wreck-it Ralph movie. If I were to give you a complete play by play of this movie, you?d be stuck here reading forever. So, let me give you part one of this movie review. I?ll try and give the shortest version I can knowing full well that I?m skipping big chunks of the movie. Okay, here we go.

Have you met Wreck-it Ralph? You see, he?s a character inside the Fix-it Felix video game which has been around for the past 30 years. Technically, he?s the bad guy in the video game. Wreck-it Ralph climbs and smashes the big building where people live. Along comes our hero Fix-it Felix with a magic hammer that fixes all the damage that Wreck-it Ralph unleashes. For the past 30 years, Wreck-it Ralph does the breaking and children control the Fix-it Felix character to do all the fixing. For all the fixing that Felix does, he?s been winning medals medals, and more medals.

After 30 years though, Wreck-it Ralph has had enough of being the so-called bad guy and decides he wants to make a change. When the kids go home and no one is playing with the video games, all the good guys in the Fix-it Felix game hang out in the big building while he sleeps alone in the dumpster with all the broken bricks and his tree stump. He feels left out and alone. There?s a 30 year anniversary party inside the video game and well, Wreck-it Ralph isn?t invited even though he?s a big part of the game too.

Wreck-it Ralph decides to go to the anniversary party only to leave in aggravation vowing that he?d win a medal for himself so that others would no longer see him as the bad guy. Ralph learns he can win a medal inside another video game called Hero?s Duty but it involves a lot of fighting, shooting, and a lot of bugs. (skip skip skipping!)

Through a series of events, Ralph ends up in another video game called Sugar Rush, a race car driving game where he meets a ?glitch? named Vanellope. There is a lot of bantering between Ralph and Vanellope but in the end, the two become close friends. Together, Ralph is finally seen as so much more than just a bad guy and Vanellope?s true self is revealed.

Verdict:

Is the Wreck-it Ralph movie a good kids movie? Well, judging by how packed the movie theatre was and how much my daughter enjoyed it, I?d say it was a pretty great kids movie. There is a lot to learn and a lot to watch in this kids movie beyond the images you see on the screen.

There is just so much to talk about in this Wreck-it Ralph movie. The movie is so intricately made with cameo appearances from infamous video game characters (I?d forgotten about the root beer Tapper game!) and the mystery world in game central station is just too cool that words alone just don?t cut it. My daughter and I gabbed about this movie right up until bed time and I?m sure she?s going to talk more about it for the next little while.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2 of this Wreck-it Ralph movie review. I?m going to gather my thoughts tonight and give you all a more detailed review of the movie tomorrow. So much to write that my fingers hurt just thinking about it all!
